Yahweh, the Trinitarian God of the Bible:

-Is a person with the name Lord. The Lord who rules over all sprits and spiritualities.

-Is a person, he has a name, he wants to relate.

-is compassionate to hurting and suffering people.

-is helpful. He is at work for us.

-is slow to anger. He had a long wick.

-is lovingly faithful. Hebrew word hesed. It speaks of the constant, passionate, overflowing, relentlessly pursuing, extravagant, limitless, trustworthy, and merciful love of our God.

-is dependable and truthful. He never fails and he never lies.

-is forgiving. He is willing and able to forgive repentant sinners.

-is just. God is altogether holy and good, and because he is just, he cannot and will not excuse or overlook sin that is not repented of to him in relationship with him.

Humility

Humility

Why do we need to be walking in humility?
God resist the proud

In the same way, you younger men must accept the authority of the
elders. And all of you, serve each other in humility, for
"God opposes the proud
but favors the humble." So humble yourselves under the mighty power of
God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. (1 Peter 5:5,
6 NLT)

What is the result of pride?
Destruction
Pride goes before destruction,
and haughtiness before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18 NLT)

What does God hate?
There are six things the LORD hates—
no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family. (Proverbs 6:16-19 NLT)

Jesus is the perfect example of humility.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal's death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to
the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11 NLT)

Humility before God first.
My place before God

Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything
hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth;
Therefore let your words be few. (Ecclesiastes 5:2 NKJV)

What is the result of humility?
Obedience

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became
obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
(Philippians 2:8 NKJV)

First sin in heaven?
Pride

How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How
you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you
have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my
throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the
congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above
the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High. Yet you shall
be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. (Isaiah
14:12-15 NKJV)

Lucifer was beautiful

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Son of man, take up
a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord
God: You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in
beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was
your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and
jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of
your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were
created. You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you;
You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the
midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day

Who then tempted Eve to be like God. The root of all sin is pride.
Pride comes before destruction.

Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God
knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you
will be like God, knowing good and evil. (Genesis 3:4, 5 NKJV)

Disciple of Jesus needs to be humble. We must be growing in humility
like Jesus Christ.

Humility is:
Not being a push over
Not being invisible
Not putting down or insulting ourself but thanking God for his work in me.
Not neglect myself but take care of myself and others also.
Not allowing lies to dilute the truth but speaking the truth in love.
Not allowing the strong to oppress the weak.
Not reject thanks, praise, and compliments but redirect to God.

What is humility?
Who our identity in Christ through the gospel (nothing more & nothing less).

Humility starts with the mind and heart.

What does humility look like?
Depend on the Lord Jesus Christ

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)

Grateful heart toward our Heavenly Father & reflecting His Glory

But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord
Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the
world. (Galatians 6:14 NKJV)

Radical: the great reward

The great reward of the gospel: God himself. This is the eternally
great reward, and we would be foolish to settle for anything less.
When we consider the promises of Christ, risking everything we are and
everything we have for his sake is no longer a matter of sacrifice.
It's just common sense.

Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the
end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And he is more than enough
for us.

Radical: death is reward

Radical: built for war

The purpose of the church is to mobilize a people to accomplish a
mission. Yet we have turned the church as troop carrier into the

Radical: risk of following Christ

For "Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved."
But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him?
And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him?
And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how
will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the
Scriptures say, "How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring
good news!" (Romans 10:13-15 NLT)

Taking a look at the verbs in these verses in reverse order.
The simple divine plan for taking the gospel to all peoples of the world:

God sends his servants
His servants preach
People hear
Hearers believe
Believers call out to Jesus
Everyone who calls is saved

Is there any place where this plan can break down?
People who call is saved, believers will call, many [not all] hearers
will believe, if we preach people will hear, God will send his
servants.
The only part of the plan that can break down is when God's servants
(us) don't preach.

We are the plan of God, and there is no plan B.

Truth 6: people cannot come to God apart from faith in Christ

Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God?
No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based
on faith. So we are made right with God through faith and not by
obeying the law.
After all, is God the God of the Jews only? Isn't he also the God of
the Gentiles? Of course he is. There is only one God, and he makes
people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or
Gentiles. (Romans 3:27-30 NLT)

Faith in Christ is the only means by which we can be saved.
What about people who have never heard the gospel? We are sure that
God in his love would not allow them to go to hell when they haven't
even heard of Jesus. Right? If this is true then that means that
there is another way apart from Jesus for us to go to heaven. It's
kind of saying "thank you Jesus for what you did on the cross but we
could have gotten to God another way".
Romans is clear on this point. Faith in Christ is necessary for salvation.
So we can also conclude that if there are indeed 1 billion people who
have never heard of Christ, then a serious and eternal problem exists.

Truth 5: God has made a way of salvation for the lost

But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without

believes, no matter who we are. (Romans 3:21, 22 NLT)

Finally, the good news! Christ died on the cross and rose from the
grave, and through him we can be righteous before God and assured of
eternal life.
God has made a way of salvation for the lost. Not a way, but the way.
The good news, the gospel.
So what about people who never heard of the good news?

save me from condemnation. I thank you for the great sacrifice that

Truth 4: All people are condemned for rejecting God

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His
sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:20 NKJV)

Not only is every person guilty before God, but there is also noting
we can do to change this. The more we try to do good, the more we
expose our evil.
Is God just in condemning people for not believing in Jesus when they
never had the chance to hear about Jesus? No. People are ultimately
condemned for rejecting God.
Paul writes in Roman:
All people know God, all people reject God, all people are guilty
before God, and all people stand condemned for rejecting God.

Truth 3: All people are guilty before God

As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one; There is
none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all
turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none
who does good, no, not one. (Romans 3:10-12 NKJV)

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under
the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become
guilty before God. (Romans 3:19 NKJV)

What about the innocent man from Africa who never heard of the gospel?
Well that innocent man will go to heaven!
However the innocent man does not exist. We give the man in Africa,
the woman in Asia, or even ourself in America far too much credit.
There are no innocent people in the world just waiting to hear the
gospel. Instead there are people all over the world standing guilty
before a holy God, and that is the very reason they need the gospel.
Heaven is not the default eternal state for humankind. We assume we
simply deserve heaven from God unless we do something really bad. But
this theology is just not true. All people are guilty before God, and
as such the default is not heaven but hell.

God reveals himself continually and clearly to all people. Every
person on the face of the earth and every person throughout history
has knowledge of God the Father. Not all people say they believe in

Spirit dwelling in you or filled in you?

Paul writes to Christians who already has Holy Spirit but not filled.
Be filled is passive verb. God does the filling.

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled
with the Spirit, (Ephesians 5:18 NKJV)

First filling of the holy spirit

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as
of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they
were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire,
and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the
Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave
them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4 NKJV)

The Great commission

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given
to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all
the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of
the age. Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV)

What should we desire?

Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and
all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word,
that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is
gracious. (1 Peter 2:1-3 NKJV)

Meditate the word

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall
meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to
all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous,
and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8 NKJV)

What is wrong with luxury? We don't sell our nice things (clothes, cars, houses) because they are inherently bad. We sell them and give them away because Christ in us compels us to care for the needy around us. We don't have to feel guilty for everything we buy that is not a necessity. What we can learn is that our perspective on our processions radically changes when we open our eyes to the needs of the world around us.

one natural overflow and a necessary evidence of the presence of
Christ in our hearts. If there is no sign of caring for the poor in

The week

Sometimes I feel that life requires too much from me. It wouldn't be
so bad if I had a partner to do life with. It sucks doing life alone.
There may be some community during the weekends at church but what
about the rest of the week. At work I am literally responsible for
people's lives. Yesterday I saw a family crying over their loved one,
a young guy who will most likely be dead by the time I get back to
work tomorrow. I can't help but feel responsible for their loss.
I also failed in other aspects of life but no one to talk to about
this. Another burden that will stay buried within me.
Jesus please be my companion and maybe provide me with someone that I
can share life with. Please give me comfort and peace.

Been reconnecting with Tamino. Came over his place in MoVal after
work. Had some sushi in riverside. Hang out with Mai at home and
ended up going to Moval mall to watch Black Swan. Slept over at his
house and then headed to work afterwards. Interesting place he lives
in. Old house in the middle of nowhere on this large acre of land.
He and Mai were great hosts.

went to Honda dealer to get my keys duplicated ($120 and an hour wait)

made an appointment with Apple genius bar, drove 30 minutes to the apple store, got a new iPhone

went to costco get groceries for the week

and now finally home

I wish I had cool pictures to post of new year's. But nope! Was post call so I slept through the count down...first time in years! Then had to wake up at 3:30am to get ready to go to work.

Part of the reason for choosing this career was so I can be well off...so far I don't feel so well off. My friends are in SD counting down but here I am in Loma Linda too tired to even lift a finger post call.

First day jitters always happen. Long call today. San Timoteo was closed had to take a 40 minute detour. Finished orientation now waiting for my shift to start at noon. 30 hours wohoo. Nothing to be worried about right? this is medicine, i've done medicine thousands of time by now. Well it's a new hospital. New computer system, new nurses, new forms, everything new, new policies. Oh God please help me do well.

I am at the end of my 10 day break. Some highlights of the break:

Took my COMLEX 3

Hung out with Kim Heck

Familiy outing to South Coast Plaza, Lucille's, TJmax with the parents, sister/peter/nathan, Anh Tai

The annual Thanh nien gift exchange

Hang out with Tuvien and his gf at Pho 79

Trip to the gym which ended up to be a horrible experience with me losing all my stuff including car keys, clothes, shoes, gym bag, house keys. had to call Peter to bring me my spare keys and a set of clothes since i was in my board shorts. Missed my dinner date with Khoi because of this incident. (So glad for an understanding friend)

Hung out at Chuong's house watching Socerer's apprentice and Predator with Bin, Leinah, Jason, Nga, Kim khuc, Kim tran, Huy. Great times with the friends. Bin was the one who put the event together with the reason being me visiting OC. It was funny at first how the event was for me and yet I was not in the invite. Bin accidently included the wrong Billy Le in the invite lol.

Left Chuong's house to meet up with Khoi to make up for our missed dinner. He took me to Ruth Chris. OMG Khoi is just awesome! The steak was superb. I loved every detail of that night. Thank you God so much for him. The Porterhouse for two was $85, each sides were about $10-15. We got about 3 sides. Khoi ended up paying for us. Gosh what a generous heart. Is there anyone like him ever? (Besides Jesus of course)

Bin Jason and I drove together to Commerce Casino to meet up with Huy for his Bachelor's party. Took a shuttle (not limo!) with his cousins and brother to 90210 for some steak at CUT another high end steak place. $60 for my bone in filet mignon..so tender...to die for...I also had oxtail stew for $18...

Black Angus with the family the following night. Nice and pleasant evening.

Went to church on the 24th for Truyen Giang. Followed by Norms...which has become a tradition. I think we had 15+ people showed up filling 3 tables. Had steak again.

Christmas Day: woke up late around 1130. Drove to my sister's place for again our traditional family get together. then went to Khoi's place to play some SF4 with him and some of his friends and kim khuc. We then carpooled to Chu Loc's house for Caroling.

Met up with Lynn Hua for lunch. She was visiting from UCSF Dental school. We still keep in touch ever since UCI. School up there was kind of tough for her being in SF and everything. We talk occasionally talk about school, relationships. She went through a tough relationship, so I was just trying to be a friend and be there for her on fb/aim.

Lord, you made me walk through fire. It was so painful. I asked you why, why did you put me through this? But then now I understand. It's because of this trial, I am now stronger. You have purified me through the fire. I was losing my way. Living as I pleased. Forgeting about you. Secluding myself from others. But now, I have come one step closer to You. I reconnected with my friends. My relationship with my loved one has only gotten deeper. We made a breakthrough, talked about our feelings and learn to be supportive of each other. I have learned to be there for her, to love on her, to show her that I am here for her, and she can always count on me. Feel like a stranger. I am living with my roomates but so far haven't really connect. We all just kind of seclude in our own room. No church community to call my own. No youth group to fellowship with. Don't see family as often anymore. Dinner nowadays is to-go food in my car or room or starbucks. At night when I go home to my room, my only comfort is my computer. Sleep is harder to come by even. Then it starts all over again with my alarm going off at 530am. I thought I was doing fine, but now I find myself on empty. With really no one to share my journey. Ironic that I am "saving" lives at the hospital by day but by night I find myself drowning and I don't know who to call for. I hope this feeling can go away soon.
